California Insurance Law Practice Questions for the Life and Health Exam
· By GetLicensedCA · Nine North Solutions LLC
California does not peel off a separate 30-question "state law only" score the way some outlines do. Code, ethics, and marketplace duties sit inside the general insurance block and across product sections.
These practice questions are study tools I wrote from CDI FAQs, the Insurance Code sections cited in the objectives, and PSI process rules. They are not live exam items.
What to emphasize
Agent vs broker concepts, insurer types, unfair practices themes, fair claims ideas, licensing and CE duties, appointment basics, and the 12-hour Ethics and Code requirement.
On the Life objectives, marketplace sits inside the 22 general insurance questions. On Accident and Health, marketplace sits inside the 18 general insurance questions.
Practice question 1
Question: As of 2026, must a new Life Agent applicant finish a 20-hour prelicensing course before CDI will issue the license?
Answer: No. AB 943 repealed the 20-hour prelicensing requirement for Life and Accident and Health effective January 1, 2026. The 12-hour Ethics and California Insurance Code course remains required before issuance.
Practice question 2
Question: Can you schedule the California Life exam before completing the 12-hour Ethics and Code course?
Answer: Yes. Completing the 12-hour course is not required to schedule or take the exam. It is required before the license can be issued.
Practice question 3
Question: What passing score does CDI require on the Life, Accident and Health, or combined producer exam?
Answer: 60 percent.
Practice question 4
Question: How long is a passed California producer exam valid for licensing?
Answer: One year from the date passed, under Insurance Code section 1676(a).
Practice question 5

Answer: 24 hours, including 3 hours of ethics, and the ethics portion must include 1 hour on insurance fraud (Insurance Code section 1749.33).
Practice question 7
Question: If you apply for Life and Accident and Health on the same initial Sircon application, what filing fee does CDI list?
Answer: $188 for both together on that initial filing.
Practice question 8
Question: May a newly issued Accident and Health licensee solicit before any appointment is filed?
Answer: No. CDI may issue the license without an appointment, but solicitation requires an Action Notice of Appointment or a qualifying business entity endorsement.
Practice question 9

Answer: PSI Services LLC under contract with CDI. Schedule at https://test-takers.psiexams.com/cadi.
Practice question 10
