PSI California Insurance Exam Day Rules: ID, Breaks, and What to Bring

· By GetLicensedCA · Nine North Solutions LLC

CDI contracted PSI Services LLC to deliver California producer exams. The rules below come from the Candidate Information Bulletin for California insurance examinees. If a friend describes a different state's vendor habits, ignore them.

Scheduling and fees

Schedule at https://test-takers.psiexams.com/cadi. Exam fee is $55. PSI adds a $43 convenience fee at PSI centers. The CDI Los Angeles test center does not charge that convenience fee.

Cancel or reschedule at least two business days ahead through the site or by calling (833) 518-7456. Voicemail or email alone is not a valid cancel.

Remote testing is limited

Online remote proctoring is available only for Independent Insurance Adjuster, Public Insurance Adjuster, and Life and Disability Insurance Analyst exams. Life-Only, Accident and Health, and the combined California Life & Health insurance exam are test-center exams.

Arrival

Arrive at least 30 minutes early for check-in and ID. Late means you are not seated and you forfeit the fee.

ID rules

Bring one valid government-issued photo ID with a signature. Name must match registration. Accepted examples include driver's license, California ID card, passport, military ID, employment authorization, permanent resident card, and veteran health ID with photo.

Expired IDs fail the check unless you qualify under the bulletin's narrow California extension paperwork rule. Call PSI at least three weeks ahead if you cannot meet the ID requirement.

Security and belongings

No phones, calculators, watches, earbuds, notes, bags, or study sheets in the room. No weapons. No smoking, eating, gum, or drinks in the testing room.

Head coverings and heavy outerwear are restricted except for religious apparel. Layered clothing without hoods or pockets may be allowed if worn at check-in; removing a layer mid-exam can force a lobby trip while the clock runs.

You may not leave the building or exam area during the test. Copying or sharing exam content violates PSI policy and Insurance Code section 1681.5.

Supplies and tutorial

Centers provide pencil and scratch paper or an LCD writing tablet. Return them at the end.

A tutorial of up to 15 minutes does not count against exam time. Sample items follow so you can practice the interface.

Question counts and experimental items

Combined Life, Accident and Health: 150 scored questions, 195 minutes. Life-Only or A&H-Only: 75 questions, 105 minutes. Passing score 60 percent.

PSI may include about one to ten unscored experimental items. They use time but not score.

Score reporting

Pass or fail appears on screen after you end both the exam and the survey. PSI emails the score report. Fails include a diagnostic of how many questions were correct. You can print a duplicate from your PSI account.

Breaks and leaving the room

PSI's bulletin does not treat the Life and A&H center exams like a casual open-campus test. You may not exit the building or leave the examination area during the exam. Plan restroom needs before you start.

Cheating and admin bars

Copying content or using banned devices can void results and trigger legal consequences under Insurance Code section 1681.5. CDI also reports administrative bars for willful cheating. Do not test those lines.
